Mondays Suck – How To Break Through The Fog And Start Producing

Mondays suck. There’s no getting around that. Even if you have the best job in the world and love it 95% of the time, Mondays typically suck. I love my job. I love working freelance and being able to pick most of the projects I want to work on. I love the freedom of being able to work wherever, whenever. But after a fun-filled weekend, Monday is TOUGH. Sometimes even this doesn’t help at all. On Monday I’m usually slow, lethargic, I feel like don’t want to do... read more

How To Know If You Should Start Your Own Business

Should you work for someone else or be your own boss? That, my friend, is a tough question to answer and it depends on both your personality and the stage of your life. Early on in life it might make more sense to work for someone else. You can learn a ton from the company you’re working for and you’re sort of building your own platform, your own paradigm, as well as adding to your toolset as you go. You have safety and... read more

Work Your Passion – And Pizza For No Reason

Webcore is a business about web development and marketing. But we’re a business that’s focused on helping people make the most out of life. We can all use technology to help do things faster, better and more efficiently, so why not? Why do we have to spend 8-10 hours a day working, away from our loved ones most of the time. What if, instead, we worked 6 hours a day during the week and maybe a couple hours here and there on the... read more

Finding Your Niche: Why You Don’t Need Webcore

“You don’t need my business, you should try this other guy.” What!? What if you told people they didn’t need your business? Would you do that? Most businesses would never tell you why you don’t need them. It sounds crazy at first – why wouldn’t you want all the business you can get!? Most people use the “take all they can get” mentality. But really, it’s good to filter the wheat from the chaff. It’s good to get connected to your perfect... read more

Baby Steps To Climb That Mountain Of A Goal

What are you doing TODAY to live your dreams? Too often we put off until tomorrow stuff we should be doing today. I know … I’m guilty of it too. Sometimes that big thing we’re trying to get done seems like a mountain. It’s hard to even figure out how to start doing anything. So we just put it off and do something else. But you’re never going to get to the top of that mountain until you start climbing. You’ve just got to take a single step up that... read more

Working & Playing: It’s All the Same

(This was written a while back but never posted… until now 😄) Here I am at 10,000 feet, writing on my Macbook Pro. I have some time to kill, so I am “working”. Except it’s pretty difficult to work when you’re on a plane. Your arms are squished in at weird angles and there’s not enough room to open the top of your laptop all the way. A few years ago when I jumped ship from a good job to go freelance, I never thought I’d be working from a... read more

How To Get Out Of Debt … With Baby Steps

We’ve talked before about how simplifying life and reducing clutter can lead to more freedom, less stress and all sorts of awesomeness. How debt is a burden around your neck that keeps you from living the lifestyle of your dreams. It’s true… but how do you get to financial freedom? How do you live a frugal life and reduce your debt? where do you even start? Well, it can actually be pretty simple. I owe a lot to the Dave Ramsey... read more

Going Freelance: Leap And The Net Will Appear!

Going freelance, being an entrepeneur, can be really hard for most people. It was for me. If you’re anything like me, you’ve worked for someone else most of your life. It’s weird and scary to not have the certainty of a paycheck. For me, quitting my job wasn’t easy at all and it wasn’t anything that happened overnight. It took me many years to come to the realization that I didn’t want to work for someone else, that the job I wanted simply didn’t exist in the world; I had to create... read more

Webcore has rebranded! That’s right… WebCore Internet Solutions is now… (drum roll please) Webcore! Wait what? What a huge deal, right? I can remember when I first started Webcore. After a long career in web development, I quit my job strike out on my own. I can remember my last day on the job: Friday, September 13th... read more

What Would You Do With Your Life If You Were Rich?

Think about this: If you were immediately rich and had $50 million dollars what would you do with your life? What would your ideal lifestyle be? No really, think about that. What would you do if you had all the time in the world? Oh sure, the first couple of months would be AWESOME. You could make it rain cheese. You could throw parties all the time with your friends and family. You could buy gifts for your loved ones and of course for... read more

The Top 7 Reasons To Have A Great Website

Having a modern website is crucial to your business. It is the cheapest, quickest, most effective way to create or grow your business. In observations of many local businesses, some companies either had an out of date website or no website at all. So…why have a great website?   1. You have more credibility. As people become more and more accustomed to the Internet, they expect you to have a modern website. How To Make A YouTube Link Autoplay (Embedded)

If you’re embedding Youtube videos or linking to them using something like Thickbox or Lightbox, here’s how to have them autoplay. Basically you need to add the code: autoplay=1 So consider a link like this: <a href=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/xcgn7SLp-RA?autoplay=1&keepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=315&width=560″ … The “autoplay=1” part needs to come DIRECTLY after the Youtube link. What this is saying is that the “?” means there are variables coming. Then the variables are separated by “&”. So it’s the link, then the ?, & (or “and” a variable), & and another variable and so... read more

How to Delete Unpublished Nodes in Drupal Programmatically

Sometimes we like to post tech tips. This a web development tip for people into Drupal.  Hopefully it’ll help somebody somewhere out there! —— If you deal with tons of nodes and want to clean up old, unused, unpublished nodes after a while, here’s one way to do it. I did it via coding in my own Drupal module. However you could also use the Auto Expire module. The problem I had with this is that I couldn’t find a way to actually delete the... read more

How To Check Your Data Usage on an iPad 3G for AT&T

If you have an iPad 3G and want to check your data usage, this might be a little frustrating. AT&T apparently doesn’t treat the iPad as a real account since it’s just data and not really a phone. So if you try to log into the website or follow any other instructions you get the runaround. There is no way (that I know of or was able to find out) to log into AT&T’s site to check your iPad 3G data... read more

How to turn off email notifications in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

If you’re like me, you might not like the constant barrage of email notifications on your Mac. I don’t mind them sometimes, but usually I’d much rather check my email when I’m ready to check my email. Notifications can distract you from what you’re working on and add to our already A.D.D.-like tech lives. Here’s how to remove those notifications… (You can remove them from any app!) Go to the Apple menu -> System Preferences. Click on Notifications (or type it in the Spotlight search bar) Click on the app you want to disable notifications for... read more

Small, Local Businesses Can Get a Lot With Simple Website Updates

Hey, what’s up! My name is John Monahan and I started out WebCore Internet Solutions in 2013. I designed it with SEO in mind as the primary way for local businesses to gain more prominence and get more business. I noticed so many companies using their websites as an afterthought, slapping something together quickly and not ever updating it. I totally understand this though. You have a company and you’re busy running it. You’re working your butt off and you don’t have time to update your website, much less spend a couple grand creating... read more
